Another
Door Opens
The opening of our
new ‘branch’ in Bourganeuf on
April 3 rd was a great success! More than 30 people (French and
British) visited the venue in the
Alain Gouzes Centre and we gained 12 additional members of the
Association.
April 3 rd was intended as more of a preview for existing members and
friends of the association but, in the event, we were almost
overwhelmed by the interest from new
friends.
“For me, that was a real <bonus> says Peter
Edmondson. We were hoping that the Bourganeuf venue would
improve our library service for members who find the journey to
Morterolles difficult, particularly in winter. However, lots of people
will make the journey
to Bourganeuf for market day, which is why we asked Bourganeuf
Municipal Council to help us find a
venue on Wednesday mornings" .
We couldn’t have wished for a better response
– we’re next door to the market and the Tourist
Office, who’ve also bent over backwards to help us,
is just opposite.’
“What’s more, our new members and friends are
coming from localities that we hadn’t really considered and
bringing with them new ideas and interests. For example,
there’s an interest from French people who want to improve
their English – or their
children’s – and we’ll be looking at
working even more closely with the French library which is in the same
building and with other
associations, as well as stocking audio-books, to develop these
activities.”
Only a relatively small selection (150-200 books and DVDs) will be
installed in Bourganeuf and members will be encouraged to order online
from the website for
delivery from the main library in Morterolles every Wednesday. Members
will obviously be able to return
their books to Bourganeuf as well.

L’ouverture
de notre nouvelle antenne à Bourganeuf
le 3 avril fut un grand succès ! Plus de 30 visiteurs
(Français et Anglais) sont venus à
notre rencontre au Centre Alain Gouzes. Une douzaine a
souhaité rejoindre notre association.
Le 3 avril était plus pour nous une présentation
de notre nouveau local destiné à nos
adhérents et amis, l’interet suscité
auprès de nouvelles personnes fut très positif
pour nous.
« Pour
moi ce fut un vrai »bonus »
déclara Peter Edmondson. Nous espérions par une
offre sur Bourganeuf faciliter l’accès
à la
bibliothèque. Le local de Morterolles pouvait rebuter
certaines personnes , plus particulièrement en hiver. Le
mercredi ,jour de marché nous semblait la meilleure
journée: notre demande
auprès de la municipalité de Bourganeuf
était dans ce sens. Le local est le mieux que nous pouvions
espérer: près du marché et de
l’office de tourisme qui nous apporte une aide logistique
pour stocker nos livres".
Les nouveaux adhérents et amis viennent de
localités que nous n’avions pas
envisagées au départ. Ils amènent avec
eux de nouvelles
idées et de nouveaux centres d’interets. Par
exemple certains Français souhaitent, par la lecture de
livres en anglais améliorer leur maitrise de cette
langue, ils ont le même désir pour leurs
enfants. Le local mis à notre disposition abrite une
multitude d’activités dont
la bibliothèque municipale: ce lieu est très
« vivant » !. Nous souhaiterions
également développer un secteur livres audio.
Une petite sélection est disponible à Bourganeuf
avec possibilité de réserver d’autres
ouvrages.
